StopSafe

Privacy Policy

Effective September 6, 2026

Overview

StopSafe is built to work fully offline. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is stored on your device, and the very limited circumstances under which any of it leaves your phone.

Information We Collect

StopSafe stores the following locally on your device:

How Your Data Is Stored

All data lives in a local SQLite database on your device โ€” StopSafe has no server and does not sync your data to the cloud. Sensitive fields (your name, phone, email, insurance policy number, license plate, emergency contacts, attorney contact, and any witness name, phone, or statement) are individually encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The encryption key is generated on your device and stored in your device's secure hardware keystore (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore) โ€” it never leaves your phone and StopSafe cannot access it remotely.

Location, Camera, and Sensors

StopSafe requests location access (including background access, to help detect a crash automatically) and motion sensor data for crash detection, plus camera access to capture evidence and local notification permission to schedule insurance-deadline reminders. You can review or revoke any of these permissions in your device Settings at any time; doing so may limit specific features but the app will continue to work offline.

When We Share Your Data

StopSafe does not transmit your data to us or to any third party automatically. Data only leaves your device when you choose to share it โ€” for example, tapping Share or Export to send an evidence packet through your phone's native share sheet or text message to a recipient you pick yourself, such as an attorney, insurer, or contact. Exported packets are written to your device's local storage first; nothing is uploaded as part of that process.

Third-Party Services

StopSafe does not currently use any third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting service. If that changes in a future release, this policy will be updated before the change ships.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can delete individual incidents, or clear the entire local database from Profile & Settings. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data, including the encryption key.

Children's Privacy

StopSafe is intended for licensed drivers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If we change how StopSafe handles your data, we will update this page and adjust the effective date above.
